Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has rejected allegations that his client, Salomey Awity Baffoe, received money from the person accused of operating the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.
Speaking on Citi FM on September 22, 2026, he insisted that his client had no financial connection to the activities under investigation.
“My client has never received money to recruit anybody or has never given money to anybody to recruit someone,” he said.
The lawyer was responding to claims by the Ghana Police Service that Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, identified by police as the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account, sent money to Baffoe in Ghana.
Police allege the funds were intended to support the production, publication and distribution of online content. Authorities further claim that Baffoe passed on parts of the money to other people who helped share videos produced by Kodua across different social media platforms.
The Police said the allegations were supported by material gathered during forensic examinations of Baffoe’s mobile phone. That evidence reportedly included audio and video files, alongside mobile money transaction records.
However, Baffour Awuah questioned the reliability of some details made public by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Donkor, during a press briefing about the case.
“The CID Director General came out and then did a press conference and put out certain information. I want to say that that information is doubtful in nature,” he said.
Baffour Awuah also rejected any suggestion that his client knew the person behind the account under the name “Jollof”. He said he would not speculate about the identity of the account operator, choosing instead to address the allegations specifically made against Baffoe.
“So let me say this here, my client has never known anybody called Jollof. You don’t have to know by that name. You can know the person by their real name,” he said.
Baffoe has been charged with abetment of crime, specifically the publication of false news.
She has pleaded not guilty and was remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 30, 2026, while the Police continue their investigations into the case.
