Ghana international Mohammed Kudus played a key role in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 win over Coventry City, setting up the opening goal before limping off with a suspected injury late in the game.
Kudus started at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and made an early impact, creating the opportunity for James Maddison to put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute.
Maddison finished confidently from the edge of the penalty area after being set up by the Ghanaian forward, giving Tottenham an early advantage.
Coventry, however, refused to give up and drew level four minutes after the restart. Jack Rudoni reacted quickest to a rebound inside the box in the 49th minute to make it 1-1.
Tottenham responded in the 58th minute when Omar Marmoush restored their lead, receiving a pass from Andrew Robertson before firing into the right side of the net.
With Coventry pushing for another equaliser, Tottenham secured the victory in the closing stages. Ben Davies produced a superb volley from the edge of the penalty area in the 90th minute, converting Dominic Solanke’s assist to make it 3-1.
Despite Tottenham’s victory, Kudus’s evening ended on a worrying note when he appeared to pick up an injury in the 87th minute.
The 25-year-old was unable to continue and limped off the pitch, with Dejan Kulusevski coming on as his replacement.
The full extent of the injury was not immediately known, leaving uncertainty over the forward’s fitness following an otherwise encouraging performance.
Kudus’s assist underlined his attacking influence for Tottenham, but attention will now turn to his condition and whether he will be available for the club’s next fixtures.
For Ghana, the hope will be that the injury is not serious, with the forward an important figure for the national team as well as his club.
