Accra, February 24, 2025
Mr. Ken Kuranchie, legal counsel for Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has strongly defended his client’s innocence following his detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority, is being investigated over financial decisions made during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF). The investigation is reportedly focused on financial approvals issued under his leadership.
Legal Defense & Due Process
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Kuranchie urged the public to allow the legal process to unfold, maintaining that his client is innocent of all allegations.
“Investigations have just started, so let us wait and see what turns out next. My client is innocent. He is innocent of absolutely all charges. But we shall see; let the government build its case,” he said.
Details of the Arrest
According to Mr. Kuranchie, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was at home on Sunday morning when three pickup vehicles arrived with NIB officers who informed him that he was needed for questioning.
He voluntarily complied and was taken to the NIB head office before being transferred to the NIB facility in Kawukudi, Accra.
While specific details of the allegations remain undisclosed, the probe is believed to focus on financial approvals made during his time at GIIF.
