An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Peter Amuzu, alias Master Pee, and Isaac Brena Eshun, alias Young, to a combined 30 years’ imprisonment for robbing a banker of her vehicle and personal belongings at East Legon Christian Centre.
The duo initially denied charges of conspiracy and robbery but later changed their plea to guilty during the court proceedings. The court, presided over by Mr. Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah, sentenced each accused to 15 years for conspiracy and an additional 15 years for robbery, with the sentences to run concurrently.
The Incident
The robbery occurred on August 19, 2024, when Amuzu and Eshun, armed with a pistol, attacked the banker at the entrance of her residence. They stole her Mercedes Benz C180, valued at €60,000 (approximately GHC1,045,738), along with her handbag containing a German passport, Ghana Card, ATM cards, three iPhones worth GHC44,629.43, cash in various currencies, and other items.
The vehicle was later sold to a third accomplice, Ibrahim Mohammed, alias King Dawa, in Tamale, who made a part payment of GHC10,000. Mohammed, currently facing charges of abetment and dishonestly receiving, allegedly financed the procurement of the firearm used in the crime.
Police Investigations
Eshun was arrested on August 22, 2024, at Dansoman, leading to the recovery of cash, mobile phones, and other stolen items. He implicated Amuzu, who was apprehended a day later in East Legon, where an iPhone belonging to the complainant’s friend was retrieved.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Mohammed had removed the vehicle’s license plates to conceal its identity. He was arrested in Tamale in possession of the stolen Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Fortuner 4×4, which had also been stolen in a separate robbery involving Amuzu.
The police recovered additional stolen items at a location in Techiman, including the complainant’s German passport, Ghana Card, and other documents.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities are pursuing another accomplice, identified as Kwame, who is reportedly in possession of the firearm used during the crime.
The case has highlighted the coordinated efforts of the Ghana Police Service in tackling armed robbery and ensuring justice for victims.
