Disregard NPP’s complaints, monitor collation centres – NDC urges supporters

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its supporters to participate actively in monitoring the collation of election results in line with Ghana’s electoral laws. Speaking at a media briefing on December 7, NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi emphasized the legal right of citizens to observe the collation, sorting, and counting of votes to ensure transparency.

Gyamfi clarified that while polling agents are stationed inside collation centers to represent political parties, the public is permitted to observe these processes from a legally mandated distance of at least 100 meters. He encouraged NDC members to remain vigilant, report any irregularities promptly, and refrain from disruptive actions.

Key Highlights:

  1. Call for Public Monitoring: Gyamfi emphasized the importance of transparency in the collation process, asserting that it is a public exercise, not a secretive one.
  2. Invitation to Opponents: He challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Electoral Commission (EC) to join the NDC in encouraging public oversight, stating, “If the NPP and the EC have nothing to hide, they should invite members of the public to observe.”
  3. Legal Framework: He reaffirmed the legality of public observation, warning against any attempts to alter this democratic tradition.

The NDC’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the post-voting phase, with the party urging all stakeholders, including the EC, to uphold transparency and integrity in the collation and declaration of results.
