Two EC BVDs recovered, 20 still missing in Kpandai

Missing Electoral Devices Found in Kpandai Bush as Search for More Continues

Two missing Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) belonging to the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Kpandai constituency have been recovered from a bush early Friday morning. The devices were reportedly found by a local resident who alerted the police.

According to the Kpandai District EC Director, Charles, the devices were among 22 BVDs that went missing after thugs disrupted the collation process in the constituency. Despite this recovery, 20 BVDs and 31 power banks remain unaccounted for.

Inventory Reveals Extensive Damage
The EC initially received 285 BVDs and 36 power banks for the electoral process in Kpandai. However, after the incident, an inventory revealed that 12 of the machines were damaged, 22 were missing, and only 5 power banks were recovered. Additionally, 49 ballot boxes were vandalized during the chaos.

“Truly, it was one of our BVDs,” Charles confirmed, adding that another machine was found nearby. Both devices have since been handed over to the police.

The EC, in collaboration with the police and CID, is continuing efforts to locate the remaining devices and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The incident underscores growing concerns about election security and the protection of sensitive electoral materials, with authorities pledging a thorough investigation to prevent future disruptions.
