Liverpool Extend Lead at Premier League Summit with Win Over Bournemouth

Bournemouth, UK – February 2, 2025Liverpool moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, with Mohamed Salah scoring twice to secure the win.

The Egyptian forward netted a 30th-minute penalty, awarded after Lewis Cook clipped Cody Gakpo in the box. With this brace, Salah now has 178 Premier League goals, surpassing Frank Lampard (177) to become the sixth-highest goalscorer in the league’s history.

Despite Liverpool’s lead, Bournemouth posed a serious threat. Antoine Semenyo came closest to scoring for the hosts, hitting the left post in the first half. The Ghanaian forward then forced an excellent save from Alisson, who kept out a powerful shot with his legs.

Substitute Marcus Tavernier also hit the inside of the post, with Justin Kluivert missing the rebound, a chance Bournemouth would rue as Salah sealed the game with a stunning curled strike.

With the win, Liverpool now sit on 56 points from 23 matches, extending their lead at the top. However, Arsenal can reduce the gap to six points if they defeat Manchester City on Sunday.

Liverpool continue their title charge, while Bournemouth, despite strong performances against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest, remain in the mid-table battle.
