Okyenhene Refutes Destoolment of Coaltar Chief Amid Investigations

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has clarified that the Chief of Coaltar, Barima Asiedu Okekrebesi II, has not been destooled but has been asked to step aside while investigations into allegations against him are conducted.

The chief is accused of involvement in the killing of two protesters and intimidation of citizens through unlawful land seizures and destruction of crops by sand miners acting on his orders. The violent incident occurred during a peaceful protest in the Kraboa community on January 16, 2025, leading to deaths and injuries.

A ritual destoolment performed by the Akyem Apapamhene has been deemed invalid by the Okyenhene, who emphasized that Barima Asiedu Okekrebesi II remains chief until formal processes are concluded.

The Okyenhene has directed the police to expedite investigations and urged calm among residents of Coaltar and Kraboa as efforts continue to restore peace and justice in the region.
