A CIA station inside the U.S. Embassy compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was attacked by an Iranian drone. Two drones hit the U.S. Embassy complex in Riyadh, where the CIA station is located.
The drone strike collapsed part of the building and caused smoke and structural damage inside the compound. Luckily, no CIA personnel or embassy staff were reported injured.
Both U.S. and Saudi authorities confirmed the embassy was hit, though they did not officially acknowledge that the CIA facility itself was struck.
The attack is widely attributed to Iran, and it appears to be part of a broader wave of Iranian drone and missile strikes across the Middle East targeting U.S. assets and allies.
The strikes follow major U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, which triggered retaliation from Iran across the Middle East region.
Since 28 February 2026, Iranian missiles and drones have targeted U.S. bases, embassies, and infrastructure in Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE.
The U.S. embassy in Riyadh temporarily closed after the attack and Saudi Arabia said it would “take all necessary measures” to defend its security amid the escalating conflict.
Similar drone attacks were also reported on U.S. diplomatic facilities and oil infrastructure elsewhere in the region.
The strike did not cause casualties, but hitting a CIA station inside the U.S. embassy is symbolically significant and signals a major escalation in the ongoing U.S.–Iran regional confrontation.
