Afrobeats singer Davido says a joint tour with Wizkid would fill venues around the world, but he would expect to be paid $500,000 for each performance.
Davido made the comments while appearing on the IONWANNATALK show, during a discussion about the possibility of working with Wizkid on new music and taking a tour together.
Although he was confident about the commercial potential of a live tour, Davido was less certain that a joint recording would become a hit.
He pointed to the collaboration between D’banj and 2Baba as an example of two major artists working together without producing a song that achieved significant success.
“If Wizkid and I do a song together, I don’t know if it will pop because when D’banj and 2Baba did a record together, it didn’t really pop,” Davido said.
The singer was more assured when discussing the prospect of sharing a stage with Wizkid.
“If we tour together, I’ll ask for $500,000 per show because I know every venue will sell out,” he said.
Davido also revealed that he and Wizkid had not made a song together for about 10 years. He attributed the lack of collaboration to their inability to work together during that period.
He said they had not been in the same mental space, while acknowledging that there were differing views over the impact of their rivalry.
According to Davido, some people believe the competition between the two artists helped make them bigger, while others think that joining forces could have strengthened their careers.
He also addressed the possibility of moving beyond past disagreements, saying that recognising a change in personal feelings required maturity.
“I felt that way at some point but not anymore, and it takes a great man to do that,” he said.
