Two persons have been arrested by the Police in Accra following a tip-off from the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, over an alleged attempt to defraud BECE candidates through the second-cycle school placement process.
The arrests followed a report made to the Minister by two BECE candidates, who provided evidence alleging that the suspects had lured them into paying money in exchange for assistance with their Senior High School placement.
After reviewing the evidence, the Minister alerted the appropriate security authorities, leading to the arrest of the two suspects at the Resolution Centre.
The Ministry of Education says the development highlights its commitment to protecting parents and students from individuals seeking to exploit the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for personal gain.
The Ministry reiterated that placement through the CSSPS is free, and warned parents and students against paying money to anyone who claims they can secure placement for them.
It has urged parents, students and the general public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of extortion, fraud or attempts to manipulate the placement process to the appropriate authorities.
