Ghana-born Qatar international Mohammed Muntari has joined Al Sadd SC as a free agent for the remainder of the Qatari Stars League season.
The 32-year-old forward, who was born in Kumasi, Ghana, returns to club football with one of Qatar’s leading sides as he looks to make an impact during the remainder of the campaign.
Muntari is best remembered for scoring Qatar’s only goal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which the country hosted. He found the net against Senegal in the group stage, although Qatar lost the match 3-1.
That goal made him a notable figure in Qatar’s football history, as the hosts struggled to make an impact at their first World Cup appearance.
His move to Al Sadd offers him another opportunity to compete at a high level in Qatari football, with his experience expected to be valuable to the club.
Born in Kumasi, Muntari has built his international career with Qatar, representing the country after moving there during his youth.
His journey reflects the diverse backgrounds of players who have contributed to football in the Gulf region.
At 32, the forward brings international experience to Al Sadd as the club looks to strengthen its options for the remainder of the season.
The move also adds another chapter to the connection between Ghanaian football talent and clubs across the Middle East.
Several Ghanaian players, including Abedi Pele, Andre Ayew, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Opoku Agyemang, have previously been associated with Al Sadd, underlining the club’s history of attracting players with Ghanaian connections.
For Muntari, the immediate challenge will be to settle into his new surroundings and help Al Sadd achieve its ambitions for the rest of the campaign.
