Residents in several parts of western Accra are expected to experience erratic water supply and low water pressure following technical challenges at the Weija Water Treatment Plant, Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has announced.
In a statement issued on May 13, 2026, management of Ghana Water Ltd disclosed that the operational difficulties at the treatment facility have affected water production and distribution to a number of communities within the Greater Accra Region.
According to the company, the disruption is impacting both domestic consumers and businesses in several densely populated areas, including Dansoman, Mamprobi, Mataheko, Laterbiokorshie, Korle-Bu, La Paz, MacCarthy Hill, Gbawe, Mallam, Tesano, Darkuman, North Kaneshie, Dome, Achimota, Anyaa, Ablekuma and surrounding communities.
The Weija Water Treatment Plant remains one of the major sources of treated water serving large sections of Accra, particularly communities in the western corridor of the capital.
Any interruption in operations at the facility often affects thousands of households and businesses, especially during periods of high water demand.
Ghana Water Ltd explained that engineers and technical personnel have already been deployed to address the challenges and restore normal production and supply as quickly as possible.
Management assured the public that efforts are ongoing to rectify the fault and stabilize water distribution across the affected areas.
The company further advised residents to store water whenever supply becomes available in their communities in order to manage the temporary disruption.
GWL also appealed to essential service providers, including health facilities and other critical institutions, to coordinate with their Assembly Members or contact the company’s call centre for support and emergency assistance.
The company provided dedicated contact numbers for affected consumers, including 0800 40 000 for Telecel users, as well as 0302218240, 0207385087, 0207385088, 0207385089, and 0207385090 for all networks.
Customers were additionally encouraged to monitor Ghana Water Ltd’s official social media platforms for updates regarding restoration works and supply schedules.
Management of Ghana Water Ltd apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused and appealed for calm and cooperation while repair works continue.
