Mahama slaps Asset Declaration defaulters with 3-month salary forfeiture

President John Dramani Mahama has taken decisive disciplinary action against political appointees in his administration who failed to comply with the mandatory asset declaration deadline of March 31, 2025.
According to the President, a report from the Auditor General’s office revealed that several appointees did not adhere to the directive he issued on February 18, 2025, requiring all new appointees or nominees to declare their assets by the end of March.
In response, President Mahama has ordered that those who missed the deadline forfeit three months’ salary, which will be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as the Mahama Cares Fund.
“In addition to one month’s salary that I have asked all appointees to donate to the Mahama Cares Trust Fund, those who omitted to declare their assets by the date will pay four months’ salary in total,” he emphasized.
The President stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, noting that failure to comply with asset declaration requirements undermines public trust.
He further warned that any appointee who fails to declare assets by the extended deadline of May 7, 2025, will be dismissed from their position.
The Mahama Cares Trust Fund, established to support Ghana’s healthcare system, will benefit directly from the penalties, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to ethical governance and national health priorities.
